I have updated to the latest version but Cakewalk can't load the VST3 plugin anymore
Steinberg has recently made a few changes in the VST3 standard, and now the VST3 plugin file for Windows is treated the same as its macOS counterpart, in that it's become a "bundle file" rather than a single file. It's now a directory with a tree and some content, including the actual plugin binary file.
Some older DAWs like Cakewalk haven't been updated yet to the new standard and can't find VST3 plugins of the new format.
We have two solutions, you can either go the manual way or use the automatic installer.
MANUAL:
- Locate the file C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\VST-II.vst3\Contents\x86_64-win\VB3-II.vst3
- Move this file to a temporary location, e.g. on your Desktop
- Delete the whole directory C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\VB3-II.vst3
- Move the VB3-II.vst3 file to C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\
Please note:
- Close the DAW before moving plugin files manually
- The directory C:\Program Files\ might appear differently on your computer, according to the localization (language) and system drive letter
AUTOMATIC INSTALLER:
Download this ZIP file, unzip it and run the installer.
